MP Demonstrates support for boosting jobs in her constituency
| New Era, the Thorne-based fish food specialist was delighted when its local MP, Caroline Flint wanted first-hand knowledge of its operation after the company had asked her to support efforts to simplify export health certification, which would not only boost its own and other companies' overseas trade but also bring new employment opportunities.
The Don Valley MP and Thorne councillor, Eddie Dobbs spent two hours at the recently-expanded facility when she learnt more about the stumbling blocks which New Era encountered when selling abroad and also saw how the company's wide ranging fish foods for the home aquarist and commercial aquariums were produced and marketed. |

| Peter Kersh, New Era's managing director, said: "There are a number of inconsistencies and anomalies in export health documentation which often impede our ability to sell to certain countries and a political influence can help to ‘level the playing field'. Fortunately, New Era enjoys excellent communication with Caroline and fully appreciates her genuine interest in what the company is aiming, and largely succeeding, to achieve globally. I am confident that her support will prove invaluable to us and many other similar exporting companies."
Caroline said: "It was a pleasure to meet Peter and the New Era staff. It is tremendous to see a small firm like New Era leading the world in researching and producing specialist diets for rare species kept in some of the world's most exotic aquariums. I will be doing everything I can to promote exports from firms like New Era, supporting jobs here in Doncaster." Continually seeking diverse and sustainable ingredient sources, New Era increased its fish food range by 60 per cent earlier this year, taking the company into the coldwater market for the first time and adding to its marine and tropical ranges. The company is totally driven by R & D. Its capability has grown rapidly within the last year and is currently working on even more innovative fish food products due to be launched in the next few months. New Era now supplies more than 70 public aquariums in the UK, Europe, Australia, North America and New Zealand, including the three largest aquarium groups in the world - Merlin, Aspro and Oceanis. In addition, 25 more distributors have been appointed throughout Europe, North America, the Far East, South East Asia and South Africa. The MP has now arranged for a meeting between senior officials at DEFRA and New Era to discuss how to make the export certification more straightforward. |
